Our qualified therapists specialize in addressing a wide range of concerns, and we are dedicated to helping our clients and their parents navigate their health and well-being. We understand this can be of sensitive nature, therefore we prioritize confidentiality, respect, and empathy in our approach. Whether the child/youth is facing behavioural issues, anxiety, or depression, our therapy sessions are tailored to meet their unique needs and developmental levels. At Tranquility Through Therapy Fort Erie, we are committed to providing a non-judgmental space where we can help your child/youth explore, learn, and grow towards their own healing journey.

How Does Child/Youth Confidentiality Work?

Our therapist's follow regulatory standards of practice when working with children or youth in relation to confidentiality. This means our practitioners balance the minor's right to privacy while respecting the parent or guardians right to information. We make these decisions based on

  • an evaluation of 'need to know' basis

  • the age, growth and maturity of the child

  • provincial/territorial statutory requirements

Regular confidentiality standards apply including:

  • if the therapist has reasonable cause to suspect abuse or neglect of child

  • if the child may endanger themselves or others

  • a disclosure is ordered by court

What Sort of Things Do Kids Work On?

When working with children who present without a specific concern, the primary focus is on developing foundational life skills that support overall mental health, including strategies for coping with everyday stressors. When a specific need is identified, sessions are more intentionally directed toward building targeted skills to address that concern and support the child’s individual development.

In a basic set of sessions there are 9 primary sessions. These sometimes take longer if a child needs more time to open up, focus on the material, or possibly uses their session time to talk about important things to them at the time.

The 9 basic sessions focus on:

Session 1 - Emotional Awareness and Expression

Session 2 - Emotion Regulation and Coping

Session 3 - Communication Skills

Session 4 - Problem Solving and Flexibility

Session 5 - Social Skills and Relationships

Session 6 - Self-Esteem and Confidence

Session 7 - Impulse Control and Behaviour Awareness

Session 8 - Body Awareness and Mind-Body Connection

Session 9 - Safety and Boundaries

How Are These Skills Delivered?

Each session is constructed with kid friendly games and tools designed to delivery the targeted information in a relatable and appropriate manner which will connect to the child's developmental stage.

For example: we will play Jenga with questions like "what makes you feel nervous" or "who are your safe people" on the blocks. When the child pulls their block out, they are asked to read and answer their designated question.
